Material FAQs

Sterling Silver

Sterling Silver is is made using 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. It is a Harty metal that has a long lifespan and requires little upkeep. Sterling Silver can tarnish overtime with exposure to moisture and our varying skin’s Ph but is easy to clean. We suggest using our Naked Sage Polishing cloth to bring your Sterling Silver pieces back to bright. Alternatively, you can use white toothpaste on a soft cloth.

14 Karat Solid Gold

14 karat gold is produced from 58.3% pure gold and 41.7% metal alloys (copper, zinc). 14 Karat gold is solid and does not tarnish. Unlike high Karat Golds which are quite soft, 14K Gold is very durable.

14 Karat Gold Vermeil

14 Karat Gold Vermeil is a beautiful gold alternative. Our Vermeil pieces are made by adhering 1 to 3 microns of solid 14 Karat Gold to a base of Sterling Silver. Vermeil pieces do require more gentle care as they are not Solid Gold and the layer of Gold can wear down over time. Gold Vermeil lasts according to how it is cared for. Please see our care guide.

14 Karat Gold Filled

14 Karat Gold Filled is made by heat and pressure bonding a solid layer of 14K Gold to metal alloys such a copper and zinc. It is tarnish resistant and does not wear away easily or change colour. Gold Filled is legally required to contain a minimum of 5% or 1/20th gold by weight. This metal composition has similar characteristics to solid gold in that it is very durable.
